  We love Elkhorn Ridge and have stayed here several times this summer as a family of four. The grounds are beautiful and immaculately maintained, and it’s clear the staff takes great pride in keeping the resort looking its best. The layout of the resort is excellent, and the full-hookup sites make it easy to get in and out with just about any size rig. Our family especially enjoys the amenities. The pool area is fantastic, with a large pool for everyone, a separate children’s pool that’s a great size for younger kids, and a recently updated hot tub that is always clean and well maintained. The bar next to the pool is a great addition and makes the whole area feel like a true resort. One of the things we’ve appreciated most is how friendly everyone has been. We’ve met wonderful people from all walks of life and have enjoyed every stay. Every campground should adopt the same reservation and check-in process that Elkhorn Ridge uses. From selecting your site to completing everything before you arrive, the process is effortless, intuitive, and incredibly convenient. As Good Sam members, we’ve also appreciated that they consistently honor our membership discount without any hassle. Although the resort is located along the CanAm Highway, the thoughtfully designed berms and landscaping do an excellent job of reducing road noise, creating a peaceful atmosphere throughout the campground. The pricing is very competitive for the quality of the facilities and amenities provided. There’s real value in knowing exactly what kind of experience you’re going to get every time you visit. We’ll continue coming back to Elkhorn Ridge and will gladly recommend it to anyone we meet looking for a great place to camp.

  we had bugs in our sheets in the loft large cabin. super hot throughout the cabin. our fridge had to get replaced because it wasnt working. pools are very nice. reasonable closing hours. nice place. campgrounded are nice. staff- amazing. so kind. throughout i give a 3.

  I stayed at Elkhorn Ridge Resort during my road trip through South Dakota, and it is easily one of the nicest, most well-managed RV resorts I’ve ever visited. The property is absolutely massive and beautifully landscaped, featuring exceptionally wide, paved pull-through sites that made parking and setting up completely stress-free. The amenities here are top-notch, including a sparkling clean outdoor pool, an upscale lodge with a great gift shop, and incredibly well-maintained historic layout details that add a unique charm to the grounds. It is a fantastic, quiet place to relax under the big Western sky, and the staff went above and beyond to ensure our stay was perfect from start to finish.

  ​Overall, Elkhorn Ridge Resort has some potential, but the lack of rule enforcement, cleanliness, and customer service left a lot to be desired. ​Starting with check-in, the experience felt unaccommodating. Unlike other resorts, there was no escort to our campsite. It’s not a dealbreaker, but it’s a standard customer service touch that was missing. Amenities were similarly frustrating; the coffee shop is only open from 7 AM to 1 PM, even though there are multiple staff members sitting at reception who could easily make coffee outside those hours. ​Communication and policy enforcement were my biggest issues. The terms and conditions stated that any burn bans would be prominently displayed everywhere. Instead, there was just a single slip of paper at the front desk. It would have been much more helpful to include this in the virtual check-in prior to arrival so we could plan accordingly. ​Noise was another major problem. We experienced bikers arriving in the middle of the night with loud exhausts and blasting music. If management allows this on a normal weekend, I can't imagine how unmanageable this place becomes during the Sturgis rally. ​Finally, the pet situation was incredibly frustrating. When we arrived, there was dog poop already left at our campsite. The resort threatens a $50 fee for not picking up after your pet, but there is clearly no follow-through or campsite walk-around done before new arrivals. Beyond that, there is zero enforcement regarding excessive dog barking or limits on the number of dogs per site, and the dog park doesn't even have a basic water spigot. ​Overall, the resort lacks the management and attention to detail you’d expect for the price I would say the only think that was nice was the resort was situated between Spearfish and Deadwood. I guess thats the only part of the "Resort" that was nice. I just dont know if one would call this a resort but instead more of a campground.
