  Simple camping in a beautiful place. A few wild horses decided to sleep by our campfire one night, which made it difficult for us to keep the recommended distance from them. One nosed around our campsite in the daytime, too. Our food was all secured so we didn’t get looted like our neighbors did. Keep ALL food and things that look like food in a vehicle or the lock box under the picnic table! Mosquitos can be bad when there isn’t enough wind to blow them away. Lemon-eucalyptus oil spray worked most evenings. Had to resort to DEET on the worst nights. Citronella coils, thermacell, and permethrin all around. Beach, ocean and bay are amazing!

  We stayed for only one night, but it was absolutely incredible! The wild horses were everywhere, and the scenery was breathtaking. The only downside was the abundance of horse flies, but that’s simply part of the experience. The ocean breeze made the heat much more tolerable, especially during the times we couldn’t run our generator. We enjoyed long walks on the beach, searching for seashells, and watching the horses relax right on the sand. Seeing the wild horses lying on the beach was something I’ll never forget. This was truly a unique and memorable experience, and it will definitely go down as one of my favorite trips.

  Beautiful place to camp, pros and cons tho. Stayed in A18, steep sandy climb to table and fire pit. By July the sand is mostly covering the concrete pad, as it was in almost all the outside/beach side sites in the loop. If you want less sand try to stay on the inside sites of the loop. Showers are absolutely freezing, even on a very warm day. Horses frequently walked the loop, saw them multiple times from our campsite. If you need a quick breakfast, drive back up to the state park side and tell them you're just going to the restaurant and they won't charge you to get in & the food is great.

  First time camping here and it was an amazing experience! We were immediately met with horses at our campsite and continued to see the same herd during our 3 day stay. Be prepared for cold, windy nights if you're going during cooler months. Our tent was not the best, but the campground was great.
