About Mississippi

Mississippi runs from Gulf sand to Delta flatland, and an RV is a good way to see the distance between them. The coast around Gulfport and Biloxi does the vacation work (beaches, seafood, water in every direction), while inland lakes like Sardis and the Ross Barnett Reservoir handle the quieter trips. State parks, private campgrounds, and national forest sites fill in the map, from bare-bones loops to parks with every amenity on the list. The Magnolia State moves at its own speed, and that suits camping.

Head inland and the trip becomes cultural as much as scenic. The Delta is where the blues came from, and towns like Clarksdale and Greenville still carry it, RV parks in the region make convenient bases for working the Blues Trail one juke joint and marker at a time. East of there, the Pine Belt is a different world: long stands of pine, quiet lakes, hiking and fishing with nobody else on the water. Jackson, in the middle of the state, gives you city amenities with natural areas a short drive out.

Then there's the Natchez Trace Parkway, the old travel corridor running from Natchez up through the state past ancient Indian mounds and early-American history. Camping on the Parkway itself is limited to designated areas, but RV parks nearby make comfortable bases for day trips along it. The state's geography spreads the good weather around (mild coastal winters, sharp autumn color in the northern hills), so there's a region worth parking in almost any month of the year.
