About South Carolina

South Carolina runs from the Appalachian foothills of the Upstate down through the historic Lowcountry to a long, sandy Atlantic shore, and RV parks show up in force across all of it. Want an oceanfront site in Myrtle Beach? A quiet spot on Lake Murray? A base for wandering Charleston's old streets? All three are on the table, often within a few hours' drive of each other. A moderate climate stretches the camping season at both ends, which is why rigs keep rolling through this state in every month of the year.

The coast draws the biggest numbers. The Grand Strand and the Sea Islands are lined with RV resorts offering full hookups, resort amenities, and short walks to the sand. Inland, the Midlands hold big freshwater lakes like Santee Cooper, where anglers and boaters settle in at campgrounds built to take rigs of every size. And up in the mountainous Upstate near Greenville and Spartanburg, RV-friendly parks sit close to trailheads and waterfalls, often with a more rustic feel and noticeably cooler air.

Between those poles, the infrastructure covers the spectrum, basic water-and-electric sites at one end, paved-pad luxury resorts with pools and activity calendars at the other. Colonial history, water sports, mountain hikes, or a lawn chair and a lake view: the state lets you build the trip you actually want. Weekenders pass through, and snowbirds settle in for whole seasons. South Carolina accommodates both without much fuss.

01Are pets allowed in South Carolina RV parks?
Most parks in the state take pets, but the rules vary widely: breed restrictions, leash requirements, designated pet areas. State parks have their own pet regulations on top. Confirm the specifics with your park before booking rather than finding out at check-in.
02What are the typical hookup options available at RV parks?
Commercial parks mostly run full hookups: 30 or 50 amp electric, water, and sewer. State parks usually offer electric and water with a central dump station. Partial hookups (electric only, or electric and water) show up too, mainly at the more rustic campgrounds.
03Is it easy to find big-rig friendly RV parks in South Carolina?
Yes. Newer resorts and parks along the major corridors and the coast are built for big rigs, with pull-through sites and room to maneuver. Still, check site dimensions and access notes when you reserve, the exceptions tend to be older parks where a 40-footer gets interesting.
04What is the best time of year for RV camping in South Carolina?
Spring and fall win on weather: mild temperatures, thinner crowds, the whole state open for business. Summer belongs to the coast, heat and humidity included. Winter is snowbird season, mild enough in the southern regions to camp comfortably straight through.
05Can I stay for an extended period, like a month or a season, at an RV park?
Many parks, especially those courting snowbirds and long-term visitors, offer monthly and seasonal rates at a healthy discount from daily pricing. The catch is availability: those sites are popular, so inquire early and book well ahead of high season.
06Are there state parks in South Carolina that accommodate RVs?
Plenty. South Carolina State Parks run numerous campgrounds with RV sites, many with electric and water hookups, bathhouses, and dump stations. Their natural settings and trail access make them favorites, which is exactly why early reservations are essential.
