About Michigan

Two peninsulas, four Great Lakes, and more freshwater coastline than most RVers will cover in a lifetime, that's the Michigan proposition. The Lower Peninsula alone runs the full range: Detroit and Grand Rapids in the south, resort towns and orchard country up Lake Michigan's west shore, and an interior stitched together with forests, rivers, and thousands of smaller lakes. Campgrounds follow the same spread, from packed family parks with full activity calendars to quiet loops deep in the trees.

Drive north through the Lower Peninsula and the trip earns its reputation. Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore rises off Lake Michigan; Traverse City serves its wine and arts scene; and the road eventually dead-ends at the ferry docks for Mackinac Island. Parks along this stretch often sit within walking distance of sand beaches, trailheads, and boat launches on Lakes Michigan and Huron. State parks and forest campgrounds fill out the map, running from rustic to modern and putting campers directly inside the landscapes worth traveling for.

Cross the bridge and the Upper Peninsula changes the rules.
