About Oklahoma

Oklahoma changes character as you cross it. The west runs to rolling prairie and gypsum hills under a lot of sky; the east climbs into forested mountains and drops into lake country. For RVers, the Sooner State's position in the middle of the country makes it an easy reach, and the parks concentrate where the water is: Lake Eufaula, the largest lake in the state, and Lake Texoma down on the southern border both draw campers for boating, fishing, and long evenings on the shoreline.

The terrain earns a closer look than most drivers give it from the interstate. The Ouachita Mountains in the southeast are genuinely old country, the Arbuckle Mountains break up the south-central plains, and the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve in the northeast protects grassland that once ran to the horizon in every direction. RV parks work as gateways to all of it, many sit on the water or within a short drive of state parks and national forest, serving quiet-weekend campers and trail hounds alike.

The culture is as much a draw as the landscape. Native American heritage sites, the museums and food of Oklahoma City and Tulsa, and the old Route 66 towns strung across the state give travel days a destination beyond the next campground. Parks range from rustic sites near trailheads to full-service resorts, so the same trip can mix a night of prairie silence with a week of hookups and hot showers.

    Visitors to Oklahoma State Parks may be required to pay daily access fees or purchase an annual pass for vehicle entry and use of amenities. These fees help maintain park facilities and services.

    Anyone 18 or older wishing to fish in Oklahoma's public waters must possess a valid Oklahoma fishing license (residents 17 and younger are exempt), with various resident and non-resident options available.
